The Zodiac is the celestial sphere area witch spread on 8,5° around the ecliptic and where the Sun, the Moon and the main planets of the solar system excepted Pluton.

The 12 signs of the occidental Zodiac are named like the constellations that were there 2000 years ago.

They are, from the vernal point :

Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra (or The Scales), Scorpion, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

Signs depend on the period of the month a person was born. Periods depends also on the year of birth. For people born on the year 2000, this is the calendar of occidental signs :

Aries : from 20 March through 18 April
Taurus : from 19 April through 19 May
Gemini : from 20 May through 20 June
Cancer : from 21 June through 21 July
Leo : from 22 July through 21 August
Virgo : from 22 August through 21 September
Libra : from 22 September through 22 October
Scorpio : from 23 October through 21 November
Sagittarius : from 22 November through 20 December
Capricorn : from 21 December through 19 January
Aquarius : from 20 January through 18 February
Pisces : from 19 February through 19 March

The Chinese zodiac is a cycle of twelve Chinese years placed under the signs of the 12 following symbolic animals :

Rat, Ox (or Buffalo), Tiger, Rabbit (or Cat), Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep or Ram), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig (or Boar).

It's your Chinese year of birth that determines your Chinese animal sign as well as your Chinese cosmic element.

Chinese years develop in cycles of ten years each. Every set of two consecutive years is governed by a Chinese cosmic element.
There are five elements in all : Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water.
